Strategy for Registering the RICHTX.OCX and other .OCX files in Windows 11 and 10.

I. Turn on the Windows 11 (or 10) Administrator Account.

Be aware that most Win 11 (and a lot of Win 10) machines ship with the Admin Account hidden/disabled by default.

Below is an article that contains an illustrated tutorial for turning on the Windows 11 Administrator Account.

Hint: A Google search for the phase "Turn on the Windows 11 Administrator Account" (without the quotes) will turn up lots of similar articles and Youtube videos in the search results.

II. Register the RichTX32.OCX File

Step by Step Instructions:

1. Verify that you do in fact have a RichTX32.OCX file sitting on your c:\JCapper\OCX folder.

This screenshot shows the RichTX32.OCX file highlighted on the c:\JCapper\OCX folder:
http://www.jcapper.com/messageboard/avatars/JCapperOCXFolder.jpg

Note: If the RichTX32.OCX file is missing from your c:\JCapper\OCX folder you should be able to find a usable copy of the file in your c:\JCapperBuild folder. (Alternately, contact me and I'll get you a copy of the file.)

2. Create a new desktop shortcut for JCapper's Install Wizard/Help Doc Viewer.

Hint: When creating the shortcut browse to the c:\JCapperBuild folder and use the following file as the shortcut's target file: JCapper_InstallWizard.exe

This screenshot shows the JCapper_InstallWizard.exe file named as the shortcut target while I was in the process of creating the shortcut itself:
http://www.jcapper.com/messageboard/avatars/InstallWizardShortcut.jpg

3. Right click the new desktop shortcut created in step 2 above and select RUN AS ADMIN.

4. When the Install Wizard/Help Doc Viewer opens - note the 2nd menu item down from the top on the left hand side labeled "RegSvr32 Register OCX Files" and give it a click.

This screenshot shows a close up of the 2nd menu item down from the top on the left hand side of the Install Wizard:

You should receive registration successful messages for each set of DLLs or OCX files.

Provided that you:

• First turned on the Windows 11 (or 10) Administrator Account:

• Ran the Install Wizard from a desktop shortcut where you right clicked the shortcut and selected Run as Admin:

Windows 11 (or 10) should have granted you true admin rights:

The dlls and ocx files should actually register this time.

The one exception being the wshom.ocx file (which JCapper can run just fine without.)

That's It!

Youtube Video How to Enable the Windows 11 Admin Account:
https://youtu.be/XFS2hqAaBSE

Watch the above Youtube video.

1. Perform the steps in the video to enable the Admin Account.

2. Log into your user account as an Administrator to get true admin rights.

Repeat, after you enable the Admin Account:

You need to log into your user account as an Administrator to get true admin rights.

Link to a screenshot from about the 44 second mark in the above video showing the author about to log into his user account as an Administrator:
http://www.jcapper.com/messageboard/avatars/LogInAsAdminWin11.jpg

WHILE YOU ARE LOGGED INTO YOUR USER ACCOUNT with True Admin Rights:

Perform the registration steps in section II that I posted (above.)

That's about as clear as I can make it.

From the email inbox:

"THANK YOU VERY MUCH

I'm all set up to run program on new HP

thanks again!!"

Just an Fyi, after Enabling the Hidden Administrator Account:

Logging into the Administrator Account to get True Admin Rights before right clicking the desktop shortcut and selecting Run as Admin...

THAT was the difference maker.

Thread bumped per new user request.

IMPORTANT! Almost all new machines now have Windows 11 and ship with the Admin User Account hidden and/or disabled.

Before installing JCapper:

1. You need to enable the hidden Admin User Account.

2. Log into Windows as the Administrator (which gives you True Admin Rights.)

Once you have True Admin Rights your JCapper Install should go smoothly.

To that end --
Watch this YouTube video titled How to Enable the Windows 11 Admin Account:
https://youtu.be/XFS2hqAaBSE

Alternately, see this tutorial at the GHacks site:
https://www.ghacks.net/2021/10/01/how-to-enable-the-hidden-windows-11-administrator-account/

Watch the video carefully. Don't be afraid to click the rewind and freeze buttons to see exactly what the author is doing.

He basically:

Clicks the Windows Start button, selects Search, types CMD into the Search Box, right-clicks the Search Box and selects Run As Administrator to launch a Command Prompt (even though he doesn't have True Admin Rights yet.)

Then (at about the 0:18 mark in the video) he types the following text into the Command Prompt and (at about the 0:33 mark) hits the Enter key to enable the hidden User Admin Account:

net user administrator /active:yes

At about the 0:34 mark in the video you can see that it "took" because Windows responds with the following text:

the command completed successfully

At this point, the Admin User Account is no longer hidden/disabled.

Next, at about the 0:43 mark in the video he clicks on the Windows Start Button and then clicks on his User Icon (and because the Admin User Account is no longer hidden/disabled) Windows now displays the Administrator Icon (or the icon for the Admin User Account.)

At about the 0:55 mark in the video he clicks on the icon for the Admin User Account and logs into Windows as the Administrator.

Q. What if you don't have an Administrator password?
A. See this tutorial at the GHacks site:
https://www.ghacks.net/2021/10/01/how-to-enable-the-hidden-windows-11-administrator-account/

Hint: Look for the headline that says "Step 5: Change the administrator password" a little less than halfway down from the top of the page.
